Palace Theater
Frostburg, MD
The actual building has been dated as early as 1890 when there was apparently a bakery in the building. At one point in the early 1900's there was a lawyer and then a print shop followed by a barbershop in the building. In 1912 the building was purchased and they build an auditorium behind it. The Palace as it was named did a great business for years. The building and business suffered from two fires; one in their building and the other a local business that caused heat to weaken a wall that shortly afterwards collapsed. Each time, the owners regrouped and reopened the Palace after repairs were made. In 1981 the owners sold the property due to a decrease in popularity of the theater due to the mega movie complexes that had cropped up. The building set empty for a few years until a non profit organization came to purchase and restore this historic theater.
